Dylan Sprayberry as Liam Dunbar -Werewolf-
Liam Dunbar is a new freshman who attends Beacon Hills High School and Scott McCall’s first beta in the pack. Liam is a talented, cocky and handsome Lacrosse player, but has severe anger issues. Liam’s step-father, Dr. Geyer, an administrator at Beacon Memorial hospital taught and played lacrosse with him. Liam transferred to Beacon Hills High after being kicked out of Devonford Prep because he violently damaged his lacrosse coach’s car with a crowbar in response to his benching Liam for getting a number of red cards. Liam was diagnosed with I.E.D., after being sent to a psychologist for an evaluation. Liam is Scott’s first Beta werewolf in his Pack and Mason’s best friend.
Liam first appears in “Muted”, excelling at lacrosse practice, but is accidentally injured by Scott, breaking his leg and Scott immediately helps bring Liam to the hospital. Liam comes into the supernatural world when he’s held hostage by Sean Walcott, a wendigo. Scott attempts to rescue him but Liam is thrown over the hospital roof. Sean had Scott’s arms pinned during the fight, so to save Liam from falling to his death, Scott was forced to catch Liam with his fangs, Biting him, transforming Liam into his first werewolf. In the next episode “The Benefactor”, Liam’s werewolf abilities begin to manifest. At Lydia’s lake house, Scott’s Pack meets Liam, they attempt to gain his trust and they debrief him of their supernatural status. Liam angrily snaps at their behavior, losing control of his animal side, running out into the Preserve. Scott and Chris Argent effectively subdue him before he does any damage. After Scott calms him down, Liam tearfully admits he deserved getting kicked out of his old school and is remorseful of how his behavior hurt his parents. He’s fearful of his parents seeing him as a monster, that they can’t know about what’s happened to him. Scott tells Liam him that he is not a monster, he’s a werewolf like him. Afterwards, Liam believes Scott and the others, being inducted into the Pack, they teaching him everything supernatural and developing a big brother-little brother rapport with Scott.
Liam learns from Mason that the pre-season scrimmage will be against his old school. Liam faces off against his old school rival Brett Talbot. Scott and Stiles keep Liam under control during the game, but they learn that their teammate Garrett is an assassin. Liam is then kidnapped by Garrett, held in a well and dying of a wolfsbane laced wound. Liam remembers Scott’s training on being a werewolf which gives him enough strength and control over his werewolf side to climb up the well and let out a howl which allows Scott to find and rescue him. Liam eventually learns and develops enough control outside of the full moon. In “Time of Death”, Scott tells him he doesn’t have to get involved in the plan of the catching ‘the Benefactor’ if he doesn’t want to, Liam decides he’s not afraid and wants to help. Liam and Kira face off against Kate’s Berserker, but they’re beaten. Liam afterwards develops PTSD, having hallucinations of the Berserkers. Later on with his price on the Dead Pool being moved up to $18 million because of Derek’s removal and the attempted assassination of he, Malia and Scott at the bonfire, the stress starts to get to him. He admits his fears to Scott, saying he’s not like his Alpha, how he and the others constantly put their lives on the line, to help and save people. In ‘A Promise of the Dead’, Liam struggles with his PTSD, beginning to alienate Mason as a result, but is helped by Brett with his former rival snapping him out of his phobia and remarking how lucky Liam is to have Scott as his Alpha. In “Smoke & Mirrors”, the full moon is approaching, but Liam insists on coming to save Scott. Liam perfects control when Stiles has him recite Satomi’s mantra. When Scott is under Kate’s control as a Berserker as per Peter and Kate’s plan to kill him, Liam gets through to Scott, using the same words Scott said to him on his first full moon.
